Monthly theme - April 2025 - Life Sciences
This April our theme in The Data Lab Community is 'Life Sciences'. We've teamed up with our friends at the Scottish Universities Life Sciences Alliance (SULSA) to deliver a programme of activities combining Life Sciences with Data & AI.
Throughout the month, we'll provide insights into cutting-edge research at the intersection of life sciences and data science, creating an opportunity for industry, academics and students to connect.
As always, we're keen to hear from community members who are interested in this area - so please go ahead and share any questions, resources, blogs, and/or interesting content in the community!
Our life sciences guest blog 🗞️
As we begin our Life Sciences theme, we're delighted to share our guest blog from Dr Zahra Rattray, Senior Lecturer in Translational Pharmaceutics at the University of Strathclyde. In this blog, Dr Rattray explores how AI and big data are transforming the pharmaceutical industry, speeding up drug discovery, and enabling personalised treatments.
Check out the blog here: The Future of Drug Development: How AI and Data are Revolutionising the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Events 🎟️
As part of our activities throughout the month, we're hosting and supporting a number of events related to our theme. Make sure to register for the events you'd like to attend via the links below!
- Data & AI Meetup: Life Sciences - 2 April 2025 13:00 - 15:00 BST [Glasgow, UK + Online]
Life sciences encompass the study of all living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, evolution, and interactions. The field includes biology, genetics, microbiology, and ecology, with the aim of understanding life at all levels - from molecules and cells to ecosystems. Join us as we showcase examples of data & AI in life sciences and discuss the future potential of these technologies.
- The Power of Data in Environmental Science: From Genomes to Ecosystems - 22 April 2025 11:00 - 12:00 BST [Online]
How is data transforming our understanding of ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability? Join us for this exciting webinar featuring leading researchers from Scotland's life sciences research community who are using genomics, ecological modelling, and environmental informatics to drive new insights into the natural world.
- From Molecules to Populations: Data-Driven Approaches to Health Research - 30 April 2025 11:00 - 12:00 BST [Online]
How can large-scale health data, omics technologies, and computational models transform how we understand health and disease? This webinar brings together leading researchers who are applying data-driven approaches to bridge the gap between molecular insights and population-level health outcomes.
